Michael G. Tarzia, Sr., age 85, living in Ashland, VA, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born in Stamford, the son of the late Nicola and Donata Tarzia. He was the husband of Marie D. Testa from Norwalk, who predeceased him four years ago and married for 60 years. They spent most of their lives in New Canaan (30 years), Wilton and Danbury. He spent the last four years with Stella Eidt of Danbury, CT who was also by his side. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a custom home builder in New Canaan for over 30 years and built all the homes on Bittersweet Lane (named after eating some sap from a tree which he said was bitter and then turned sweet). While living in New Canaan, he contributed his time as a Special Police Officer at the New Canaan Police Department, under the former Police Chief Frederick Tiani and his best friend. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He worked as the head of Maintenance for Thompson CSF in Stamford prior to retirement. He loved the sport of boxing and could always pick the winners of a boxing match. He was a golden gloves champion in his teens. During WWII, while five of his older brothers were serving in the war, he led and won an award for a massive drive for scrap metal to help in the war effort. In his later years, his passion was cooking for family and friends. Mike loved his family and will be sadly missed. He was predeceased by his brothers Domenick, Pasquale, Lawrence, Nicholas and Bruno as well as his sisters Marguarite Boccuzzi, and Lucy Cullinan. He is survived by his five children: Michael Jr. (Mike's Towing and Collision) and Joan Tarzia of Brookfield, Nicholas and Shelia Tarzia of Ashland, VA, Donna Barnas of Branford, Mary Tarzia and her fiancé Ricky Santerre of Brookfield and Chris and Sally Lapolla Tarzia of Richmond, VA. He will also missed by his 10 grandchildren, Michelle McNamera, Michael Tarzia III, Matthew Tarzia, Nicholas Tarzia Jr, Brittany Tarzia, Leah Barton, Paul Barnas, Marcelle Barnas, Brianna Tarzia and Christopher Tarzia, Jr. and six great-grandchildren, Matthew Tarzia Jr, Anthony Tarzia, Guiliana Tarzia, Michael Tarzia IV, Briella Tarzia and Cienna McNamera. He is survived by his sister Sarah Lorenti and his brother Joseph Tarzia. There will be no services and his burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Norwalk, CT. His grandson Christopher Tarzia (14 years old) was recently diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia and is currently undergoing a bone marrow transplant at Duke Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Cancer Organization Transplant Association, COTA for Christopher MT. The mailing address is 2501 W COTA Dr., Bloomington, IN 47403. -
